Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of bringing one's full attention to the experiences occuring in the present moment.  Mindfulness can be cultivated through the practice of meditation.

In modern life, we live hurried and distracted lives and often we wear our ability to multi-task as a badge of honor.  But this way of life often leads us to feeling burnt-out and stressed.  Chronic stress has both short and long-term impacts on our overall health.  Mindfulness training helps us to see that there is another way to live and experience our lives.  By training our attention, we find ourselves opening up to the many possibilities that exist within any moment.  Mindfulness is an invitation to live our lives in the fullest, most heart-centered way.

There are several mindfulness groups that occur at Sunflower Yoga.  Please see the list of upcoming events below.  Private training is also available upon request.
Monthly Community Meditation

2nd and 4th Mondays 6:00-7:00pm

We meet as a community two times a month to sit in meditation.  We sit for 20-30 min and discuss a reading as it pertains to our personal practice.  Community sits are open to all and run by donation.

Upcoming Courses

  1. Mindfulness for Beginners
    Thursdays in May, 6:00-7:15pm
    5-week Meditation and Mindfulness Groups Join us for an introductory course on meditation and mindfulness. Through formal meditation instruction, facilitated group discussion and embodied practices you will: • Gain insight into the benefits of meditation. • Learn to weave mindfulness into your daily life. • Acquire tools to cultivate a regular meditation practice. Cost is $65 for the five week group.
  2. The Path to Loving Kindness
    Wednesdays in May, 7:00-8:15pm
    A part two to Mindfulness for Beginners. In the five week group we dive deeper into the concept of basic goodness. We work on cultivating our own sense of basic goodness through skillfull mindfulness through exploration of the body, feelings, thoughts, attitude and relaxing into authentic presence. The cost is $65 for the five week group.
  3. Mindful Parenting
    Mindful Parenting
    3rd Monday of every month, 6:00-7:15
    A monthly parenting support group through the lens of mindfulness. We will join together each month to sit, cultivating sef-awareness as a form of self-care, and to discuss themes of mindfulness as they apply to parenting. This is a nonjudgmental and advice-free group, where we explore the struggles and joys of parenting with a gentle and compassionate heart. All those who identify as a parent in any step of this lifelong journey are welcome. This group is offered in partnership with It Takes A Village and is offered free of charge. Childcare is available.
